Hypothesis
Copy starts before the first word. Most processes start at the brief and jump straight to the draft. What happens if you add a diagnosis layer (Tier 0) that classifies the reader before any creative decision?
The hypothesis: diagnosing awareness (Schwartz) and sophistication (Breier) changes the lead type, the chosen agent and the page structure.
02
Method
For each of the portal's 10 pages, I ran a full Tier 0 diagnosis:
- Awareness classification (unaware to most aware)
- Sophistication classification (1 to 5)
- Lead type selection (Offer, Promise, Problem, Big Secret, Story)
- Mapping the voice of the customer against the archetype
03
Result
The diagnosis changed concrete decisions on 4 pages:
- Links (awareness 1, sophistication 4): Story lead. Without the diagnosis it would have been Promise. The page opens with identity, not benefit.
- Manifesto (awareness 3, sophistication 5): maximum sophistication ruled out mechanisms. "One thing that changed everything" is guru language. The diagnosis vetoed that approach before a draft existed.
- Sprint (awareness 4, sophistication 4): the benchmark suggested Todd Brown + Marshall. With a single case study, the page needed proof maximization (Bencivenga), not mechanism naming.
- Hackeando (awareness 3, sophistication 4): the diagnosis set a 75/25 ratio of mechanism to offer. Without it, both would weigh the same.

What changed
Tier 0 is now a required gate in COPY FORGE. No draft starts without a diagnosis. Routing stopped being intuitive and became data-derived. The Tier 0 synthesis feeds routing, the brief, the QG criteria and the voice constraints.
